Design Rationale
Commonwealth Star: Featured in the canton (top left hand corner) for visibility. Derived from the old flag, though it is enlarged and coloured gold just as it is found upon the Coat of Arms of Australia (see right). It has six points for each of the states and a single point for the territories and any future states.
Southern Cross: Same as the old flag, however, it is now coloured gold. Represents our position in the Southern Hemisphere. Green Background: Combined with the gold stars, our national colours green and gold are represented. Ultimately, the Golden Commonwealth is simple and straightforward, making it a more appropriate flag design than other more complex proposals. |
